Sep 30, 2014 - Enter the AVS HD 709 Blu-ray. This calibration does not exist as a physical disk but rather it exists as a download that any user can burn to disc. The AVS HD 709 Calibration Disc is the one we're using. It's free, easy to use, has all of the calibration patterns we'll need, and can be downloaded and burned to a DVD or Blu-ray Disc.

I'm always surprised at how little people actually do this. Most people just buy a TV, get it home from the store, and never really change anything. Just follow the link, and follow the directions. At MOST, it'll take an hour of your time, but that's mostly just making sure you get everything calibrated correctly. It's not difficult, not by any stretch of the word, it just takes some time. There are a lot of settings after all. You have contrast, brightness, color, hue, TV mode (dynamic, normal, cinema, etc.), color mode (cool, normal, warm, etc.), and then you have the advanced settings like the White Balance, which involves RGB-gain and RGB-bias. At each of the numbers is a blinking white segment rectangle. All you have to do is change the brightness until a certain number of those blocks blinks.
