The latest from Latin VFR,, is certainly a stellar performer. I experienced frames between 25 and 110 using the PMDG 744. With the PMDG 738 in a flight they typically sat around the 30 mark making this a smooth location to fly in and out. It sits on an extensive photoreal base with 100’s of purpose built buildings both in the airport and the surrounding area. The closer you are to the airport and the two approaches the better the detail is. Textures are low-def and this contributes to performance so you wont get any OOM errors with this scenery.

Night lighting is the one area I was disappointed with. We have been lucky with airports such as Mega Airport Berlin and comparatively San Juan doesn’t come close to matching that standard, the best way I can describe it is ordinary. Modelling is good with some nice detail on the gates and over road taxiways. The airport is large so the buildings do the job but are not hugely detailed. The up side to this is performance which as I have said is very impressive. Comparing it to San Diego I personally feel it falls short of the visual quality LatinVFR achieved with that scenery, but San Juan is a bigger airport and if performance was a key goal during its development then they have achieved a very good balance.

The AFCAD file has traffic sitting at the correct gates which was good to see, though I found the volume of traffic, with the exception of DHL, not particularly high as I thought it would be but that may well reflect on my own AI software more than anything. There is a small conflict if you choose to install the static C130’s as some AI planes will park on top of them so ideally these spaces would have been left empty. Overall I think San Juan is very good value for money. A large area is covered along with the airport and with the excellent performance makes this a great PMDG type destination. Its not as detailed or visually appealing as some other Latin VFR releases and as I mentioned earlier falls short of the standard they set with San Diego. I think for FSX and P3D aviators who fly in this part of the world its a must have, others may think twice.
