Desolate opener Wake builds the album, instrumentally setting the stage for the remainder of the EP, and acts as an intro for one of the more heavier songs on the album Shelter, allowing it to grow until the songs breaks open. Shelter is a song that provides a feeling of solace through a comforting melody that compliments Hundredth beautifully, and highlights just how good vocalist Chadwick Johnson's lyricism actually is. Lines such as 'You choose shelter over the storm so you could still smile' - Johnson bluntly addresses the reality that most people choose comfort over change, and the open arms of safety have a greater appeal over the pain that is required for growth and sacrifice.
